About Erdaoqiao Bazaar District

The Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar combines distinctive architecture, ethnic commerce, song-and-dance performance, regional food and jewellery and jade; the district bureau calls it a AAAA-grade scenic area and a national cultural-industry demonstration base. It was completed on 26 June 2003 with a total floor area of 100,000 sq m, and the page says visitor numbers exceed ten million a year.

The page says the Erdaoqiao commercial district has for a hundred years been a barter centre for the ethnic peoples of northern and southern Xinjiang and for west and central Asia, and that the bazaar holds more than 3,300 shops and over 6,000 workers, with a food hall and a grand theatre staging a large-scale interactive ethnic song-and-dance show daily. A columnar Silk Road Sightseeing Tower about 100 m high stands at the centre of the square, displaying the thirty-six states of the ancient Silk Road and Xinjiang folk culture by relief, painting and objects. The bazaar's bricks are firebricks able to withstand 1,580–1,770 °C, and the external walls use the traditional matched-joint brick craft.

The page names the Erdaoqiao commercial district but does not state that the bazaar lies inside it, and it gives no boundary for the district; the record therefore treats the bazaar as the landmark the page describes and the district as the page names it. The municipal register enters 新疆国际大巴扎 as a 4A-grade scenic area at 510 Jiefang South Road and 二道桥大巴扎 separately as a 3A-grade scenic area at 589 Jiefang South Road, without relating the two to each other.
