About Kaizhifeng Tourist Area
The local peonies are associated with rocky slopes, where plants root between stones, giving the gardens a different setting from a formal city flower park. Spring flowering is the main seasonal attraction, while a petal-shaped glass viewing platform adds a modern lookout over the hills. The site was formerly known as Taiping Peony Garden; outside the flowering season, plan around the landscape and facilities actually open rather than expecting peonies in bloom.
What to look for
- Hillside peony gardens: the rock-grown mountain peonies are the distinctive planting feature, with flowering dependent on the spring season.
- Petal-shaped glass viewing platform: the plan of the modern lookout echoes a flower, adding an elevated landscape view when open.
