About Taohuayuan

Gu Taoyuan contains places named for the poet and his reclusive ideal, including Tao Gong Shrine and Wuliu Village. The adjoining Taigu Cave adds a very different experience: large limestone chambers, stalactites and passages beside an underground stream. Beyond the pastoral and cave sections, Youzhou Old Town offers Tujia-style streets and places to eat, making this a visit with several distinct parts.

What to look for

  • Gu Taoyuan: Tao Gong Shrine and Wuliu Village connect the recreated farming landscape with Tao Yuanming's writing.
  • Taigu Cave: limestone formations, broad chambers and an underground stream form the natural counterpart to the village scenery.

Location & getting there

Getting to Taohuayuan

Head to the Taohuayuan visitor area on Taohuayuan Avenue, by Taoyuan Jinshui'an in Youyang county town; this is the address in the county's January 2026 visitor-service directory.

  • Youyang requires an onward road journey if arriving by high-speed train at Qianjiang. Arrange the county-town transfer before setting out for the scenic area.
  • Check which entrance and exit serve the cave on the day, since Gu Taoyuan, Taigu Cave and the old-town area are distinct parts of the visit.
General visit reminders

Allow room for the terrain and weather when choosing your route. Check the operator’s current trail, shuttle and cableway notices where applicable, and confirm the return connection before setting out. A broad landscape pin does not identify every trailhead or access point.
