Pingchuan Goat Meat (平川羊肉) comes from Pingchuan District (平川区) of Baiyin (白银), Gansu. In a July 2026 report carried by Gansu Daily (甘肃日报), Pingchuan's district media centre places Pingchuan goat meat first among the district's foods.

Where it comes from

The same report places Pingchuan on the upper Yellow River, with hills rich in water and grass. The young goats graze on medicinal herbs and drink spring water, and the district media credits this with meat that is fine and tender, neither gamey nor greasy.

In July 2025 Gansu Economic Daily (甘肃经济日报) reported that the China National Intellectual Property Administration (国家知识产权局) had recognised ten farm products put forward by Baiyin as protected geographical-indication products. Pingchuan goat meat is on that list, alongside Cuiliu goat meat (翠柳山羊肉) and three other Pingchuan products: melons, apples and black donkeys.

How it is eaten

At the Baiyin Pingchuan half marathon in July 2026, the food stands and nearby restaurants served it stir-fried, braised huangmen style (黄焖) or as shouzhua (手抓), meat eaten by hand, alongside bowls of beef noodles, the signature noodle dish of Gansu.
