About Fu Forest Trail

Its open-grid deck and curving structure let trees and ground remain visible beneath the route, while breaks in the canopy reveal the city. The trail connects several parks rather than forming one short attraction with a single entrance. Select a section around Meifeng or Jinniu Mountain and plan the exit before committing to the longer linked network.

The trail was planned from 2014 by the Gulou District government, originally as a ground-level path; officials decided instead to build an elevated walkway after visiting Singapore's Alexandra city forest trail. It was designed jointly by the Singapore firm LOOK Architects, designer of the Alexandra trail, and the Fuzhou Planning and Design Institute, with construction beginning in 2015. The Zuohai-to-Jinniu Mountain section opened on trial in early 2016, the whole trail was completed by the end of 2017, and a night-lighting installation was added in May 2019.

Built as China's first fully steel-structure elevated walkway, the trail crosses four ridges, Xiangshan (象山), Houxian Shan (后县山), Meifeng Shan (梅峰山) and Jinniu Shan (金牛山), linking five city parks through ten main entrances. Its main axis runs about 6.3 kilometers, with a full loop of about 19 kilometers, a maximum gradient of 6.25 percent and a deck width of 2.4 meters.

The trail follows the Jinniu Shan ridge, connecting to Zuohai Park in the northeast and the Min River corridor in the southwest. The boardwalk's grid-panel deck has gaps of no more than 1.5 centimeters, making the route passable by wheelchair.
