About Xiapu County

Around Xiaohao and Dongbi, coastal viewpoints reveal patterns that alter with the tide and light rather than a fixed scenic picture. The Light-and-Shadow boardwalk provides another way to look along this shoreline. Choose a coastal section before setting out, and use public viewing points without stepping into aquaculture plots or assuming the exposed mud is a safe walking surface.

The county's executive, legislative and judicial offices, together with the Communist Party branch, are based in Songcheng Subdistrict (松城街道); the county court and public security bureau are in Songgang Subdistrict (松港街道), while the county hospital and an industrial district are in Songshan Subdistrict (松山街道). Xiapu administers six towns and six townships, three of which are ethnic townships for the native She people. Zhouyang Township (州洋乡), formerly under Xiapu's jurisdiction, was abolished in 2003.

In 2008, the Xiapu Manichaean manuscripts, held in Shangwan Village (上万村) in Baiyang Township, became publicly known to scholars. The manuscripts belong to Manichaeism, a religion that survives today only as Chinese Manichaeism, and they continue to be used by a local priest, Chen Peisheng (陈培生), in Manichaean rituals.

Xiapu (Chinese: 霞浦; pinyin: Xiápǔ; Foochow Romanized: Hà-puō) is a county in the municipal region of Ningde, Fujian, People's Republic of China, located along a stretch of East China Sea coast, with many harbours and islands. It is bordered by Fuding City and Zherong County to the north, Fu'an City and Ningde's urban area to the west, and Luoyuan County, Fuzhou and the Matsu Islands of Lienchiang County, Republic of China (Taiwan) to the south. Xiapu is famous among lovers of landscape photography.
