About Keyuan

Its pavilions and rooms are closely arranged around planted courts and water, giving the garden a sequence of intimate views rather than a long formal axis.

Shuangqing Hall makes that attention to detail particularly clear. Its plan and decorative patterns use the traditional character 亞, while coloured glass windows filter light and frame the surroundings. The garden’s connection with the painters Ju Chao and Ju Lian adds another way to read the setting: as a place where looking at plants, light and everyday nature fed into art.

What to look for

  • Shuangqing Hall repeats the 亞 shape in its layout and decorative details.
  • The hall’s coloured-glass windows change the light and frame views of the garden.
  • Close-set pavilions, water and planted spaces show the compact character of Lingnan garden design.
