About Friendship Pass

The rebuilt gate tower combines a heavy arched base with upper galleries, while walls extend towards the hills on either side. The separate French-style building adds a contrasting form within the scenic complex. Visit the Chinese historic site on its own terms; sightseeing access to the gate does not automatically provide permission to cross the international border.

What to look for

  • The arched gateway supports several upper gallery levels.
  • Walls on the flanking hills and the French-style building reveal different parts of the border complex.

Location & getting there

Getting to Friendship Pass

Approach the Friendship Pass scenic area from Pingxiang, at the southwestern end of the city on the historic G322 border-road approach. Confirm the tourist entrance separately from the working border-crossing facilities.

General visit reminders

Choose the building, exhibition or part of the historic area you most want to see, then leave time to explore its setting. Check the venue’s current opening and reservation arrangements directly; a place appearing on the map does not mean every building or gallery is accessible on your travel date.

Combine your visit

Suggested order for the visit:

  1. Gate frontage

Read the solid arch and upper galleries together.

  2. French-style building

Compare a different architectural tradition within the complex.

  3. Permitted wall viewpoint

Look towards the flanking hills without entering restricted border areas.
