History
A Yufeng district office was set up on Yufeng Road in August 1958, and the present district was created in March 1979 when Liuzhou's suburban district was abolished. It has grown several times since: Luorong (雒容) came from Luzhai County (鹿寨县) in 2010, which tripled the district's area; Luobu (洛埠) came from Liubei (柳北) in 2011; and Liyong (里雍) and Baisha (白沙) came from Liujiang (柳江) in 2018.
Setting and landscape
The largest river is the Liu River (柳江), a first-order tributary of the main Xi River in the Pearl River basin; the Luoqing River (洛清江) and six smaller rivers also cross the district. The district government gives 2025 forest cover of 50.58%. It lists the fairy pitta as a notable bird, and names the Longtan–Dule Rock scenic area (龙潭-都乐岩风景名胜区) among the places where birds, mammals and reptiles are found.
What to see
The district has 11 national 4A scenic areas, including Longtan (龙潭), the Liuzhou Industrial Museum (柳州工业博物馆), the Liyufeng scenic area (立鱼峰), the Liuzhou Confucian Temple (柳州文庙), Dule Rock (都乐岩) and the Bailiandong Cave Science Museum (白莲洞洞穴科学博物馆). Dule Rock Park is known for karst cave scenery, Longtan Park pairs natural scenery with ethnic customs, and Yufeng Park is themed on the legend of Liu Sanjie (刘三姐), the Zhuang song fairy. Kaiyuan Temple (开元寺), the Ming-dynasty Jiahe Academy (驾鹤书院) and the former site of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea (大韩民国临时政府旧址) are also in the district.
The Bailiandong site (白莲洞遗址) on Liushi Road is a natural karst cave with two entrances, over 1,870 metres long, with an underground river on its lowest level. A team led by Pei Wenzhong (裴文中) found it in 1956; dates from the excavations span 37,000 to 7,000 years ago, and more than 500 stone tools have been recovered. It was listed as a national key protected site in 2006.
Food and culture
The Liuzhou Luosifen Industrial Park (柳州螺蛳粉产业园) is a national industrial-tourism demonstration base. The Yufeng song fair (鱼峰歌圩), centred on Liu Sanjie's folk-song tradition, is described by the district as China's largest and most active traditional song fair and has hosted twelve national folk-song contests. Baisha Ancient Town (白沙古镇) is rated a Guangxi four-star rural tourism area.

The Wuzhou–Liuzhou, Quanzhou–Nanning and Shantou–Kunming expressways and national roads 209 and 322 run through the district.
