About Mancheng Han Tombs
The two burials belonged to Liu Sheng, king of Zhongshan, and his wife Dou Wan, and their discovery in 1968 produced some of China's best-known Han objects. The site is valuable for understanding the tombs' mountain setting and relationship to one another. Many celebrated finds, including jade burial-suit material and the Changxin Palace lantern, belong to museum collections, so do not expect every original treasure to be displayed at the tomb site.
What to look for
- The two royal tomb sites associated with Liu Sheng and Dou Wan.
- The Lingshan setting that places the excavated objects in their original burial landscape.
The surrounding area
A provincial city base for the former Zhili administrative quarter and substantial local food traditions.
