Setting and landscape

The district borders Qiaoxi District (桥西区) to the west, Chang'an District (长安区) to the north, the Shijiazhuang High-Tech Zone to the east and Luancheng District (栾城区) to the south. When the Shijiazhuang Suburban District was abolished in 2001, Yuhua received a township and a town from Zhengding County (正定), twelve villages of Luancheng County, three subdistricts of Chang'an and parts of the old suburban district. Two of the city's main east–west roads, Yuhua Road (裕华路) and Huai'an Road (槐安路), cross it, along with north–south avenues such as Jianshe Street (建设大街) and Tiyu Street (体育大街). The district government counts 65 parks and gardens, the most of any district in the city.

What to see

Diyin Temple (谛音寺), on the east side of Jianshe South Street at Suncun (孙村), stands on the site of a temple founded under Emperor Gaozong of the Tang. The old temple, later also called Xiangyan Temple (香严寺), was destroyed during the Eight-Nation Alliance invasion of 1900. Rebuilding began in 1994, and the new temple is a single seven-storey building fronted by a square with a Nine-Dragon Wall; its Jade Buddha Hall, consecrated in 1995, holds a 3.18-metre Burmese jade Buddha, and an Old Buddha Hall keeps three jade figures dug up on the original site. The Shijiazhuang Buddhist Association has its offices in the rear building.

The Jianling ancient tombs (尖岭古墓) and Jianling stone carvings (尖岭石造像) are the district's provincial-level protected monuments.

Getting oriented

Besides its universities, including Hebei Medical University and Hebei GEO University, the district holds well-known schools such as Shijiazhuang Foreign Language School and hospitals, among them Hebei Medical University's First Hospital. Metro Line 3 runs through the district, as do National Road 308 and the Xinyuan Expressway (新元高速).
