About Enshi Grand Canyon
Qixingzhai follows high cliffs and isolated rock pillars, while Yunlong Ground Fissure descends into a narrow water-cut chasm. The famous Incense Stick pillar belongs to the upper landscape, not the lower fissure. Decide which sections fit your stamina and the current opening conditions: the full combination involves transport changes and substantial walking. The operator issued a rain-related fissure closure in August 2026, so confirm its latest status before buying a combined itinerary.
Enshi Grand Canyon, also known as Mufu Grand Canyon, lies in the Qing River (清江) basin in Enshi, western Hubei, adjacent to Chongqing's Tiankeng Difeng sinkhole-and-fissure system. The canyon runs about 35 kilometers and has complex terrain that includes nearly every form of karst landform, including cliffs, peak pillars, sinkholes, ground fissures, caves, natural bridges, underground rivers, shafts, stone forests, peak clusters and hanging valleys.
Cliffs and peak clusters coexist across a wide area, a combination rare in karst terrain; besides ordinary single- and double-faced cliffs, the canyon also has unusual multi-faced cliffs, the most notable being Dayankan (大岩龛), Dahebian (大河碥), and the Qianshan (前山) and Houshan (后山) rock faces. Within the six-square-kilometer area around Muxiu's Da and Xiao Longmen (大小龙门), more than 30 solitary peaks rise above 200 meters. More than 200 caves have been found in the canyon, together with an extensive network of underground rivers and natural bridges.
The canyon falls under the Enshi Grand Canyon Scenic Area Management Office, based in Enshi's Mufu subdistrict (沐抚), formerly Mufu township. The subdistrict office was formally established on 10 December 2008 to promote tourism development in the area, operating under both the scenic area management office and subdistrict office names.
