About Liaoshen Campaign Memorial
Its galleries combine campaign history with civilian-support and commemoration themes, presenting the events from the People's Liberation Army's perspective. A panorama presentation adds a large visual reconstruction to the documentary displays. The tower and surrounding memorial grounds form a separate outdoor conclusion, allowing the visit to move from military chronology to logistics and remembrance.
The museum was established in January 1959, with roots in the Jinzhou office of a provincial museum project, and became an independent institution in 1985 after periods run jointly with the Jinzhou city museum (锦州市博物馆). It holds 21,428 relics relating to the Liaoshen campaign and related movements.
The grounds cover 188,000 square metres, with 8,600 square metres of basic exhibition space arranged symmetrically along an axis running through the south gate, a memorial tower and the main exhibition hall, which includes war-history and panorama galleries among its display halls.
The granite tower stands 8 metres tall, topped by a bronze statue of a young PLA soldier, with an inscription by Zhu De (朱德) on its front; a plaza below is flanked by a memorial corridor inscribed with the names of 49,522 soldiers killed in the northeastern campaigns. The museum is a national 4A tourist attraction (国家4A级旅游景区) and a national first-grade museum (国家一级博物馆); two associated sites, a restored wartime command post in Linghai (凌海市) and the Peishuichi (配水池) battle site, are separately listed as Liaoning provincial cultural heritage sites.
