About Bijia Mountain
Its defining feature is the natural gravel-and-sand causeway that emerges at low tide and disappears as the sea rises. Sanqing Pavilion provides an architectural focus on the island, but access planning matters more than fitting a particular walking route. Treat the causeway as a tidal feature to view and use only under the site's current access instructions.
Bijia Mountain lies in Liaodong Bay (辽东湾), about 35 kilometers south of Jinzhou and next to Jinzhou Port, forming a tied island (陆连岛) linked to the coast. It measures 1.5 kilometers from north to south and 0.8 kilometers east to west, with a total area of about 1 square kilometer. A smaller island to its northeast, Xiao Bijia Mountain (小笔架山), echoes its shape, and the larger island is therefore sometimes called Da Bijia Mountain (大笔架山).
A naturally formed sand-and-gravel path 1.8 kilometers long, known as the Sky Road (天路), links the mountain's northern side to the mainland coast; it is exposed at low tide and submerged at high tide. Together with the island and the coastal beach, the mountain forms the Bijia Mountain Scenic Area, covering 8 square kilometers in total, of which 4.72 square kilometers are land and 3.28 square kilometers are sea.
