About China Science and Technology Museum

Its permanent themes include The Glory of China, Exploration and Discovery, Science and Technology and Life, and Challenges and the Future, with a separate science area for younger visitors. The large interlocking-block building echoes a Lu Ban puzzle lock, reinforcing the idea of investigation before visitors reach the exhibits. Choose two themes that suit your group and leave time to try the activities; a theater screening is an additional scheduled experience rather than a substitute for the galleries.

The museum's predecessor was prepared from 1978 and completed on 22 September 1988. A second-phase expansion in 2000 added three halls: Hall A as the main exhibition hall, Hall B as a dome theater, and Hall C as a children's science park. The new building at the Olympic Green opened to organized groups on 16 September 2009 and fully to the public on 20 September 2009; a fire during its construction on 6 April 2009 seriously damaged its southeast exterior without casualties. The old site later reopened on 15 September 2018 as the Beijing Science Center (北京科学中心), under the Beijing Association for Science and Technology (北京市科学技术协会).

The museum is affiliated with the China Association for Science and Technology (中国科学技术协会) and is described as the only national-level comprehensive science and technology museum in China. Its exhibitions focus on scientific principles and their technological applications, encouraging hands-on public exploration to popularize scientific knowledge and cultivate scientific thinking and method.

The museum is at No. 5 Beichen East Road. Its current official visitor instructions direct arrivals through security at the West Gate and departures through the East Gate.
