About Shihuadong Cave
Hanging stalactites, rising stalagmites and broad stone curtains share the cave with shield-like formations and pale moonmilk deposits. The interest is in comparing how these shapes formed, not simply counting chambers. The cave system extends through several levels, but a geological description of the whole system does not establish which levels are open on a particular visit. Follow the designated visitor route and its interpretation of the named formations.
What to look for
- Stalactites, stalagmites and stone columns formed by dripping mineral-rich water.
- Stone shields and curtain-like flowstone formations.
- Moonmilk and flower-like mineral deposits, where visible on the open route.
