About Songshan Lake

Songhu Yanyu provides a practical first section, while lotus-viewing spaces, water-lily pools and Taoyuan Park add more detailed stops around the shore. Select a limited section of the greenway and enjoy the changing relationship between water, planting and nearby buildings. The lake’s long shoreline is the attraction; it does not require completing the entire circuit.

Songshan Lake began as a natural lake and was later converted into a reservoir named Songmushan Reservoir (松木山水库). It lies in Dongguan's Songshan Lake High-tech Industrial Development Zone (松山湖高新技术产业开发区). A 42-kilometre road runs around the lake. An observation pavilion stands on the hilltop at Taoyuan Park (桃源公园).

What to look for

  • The Songhu Yanyu lakeside paths alternate open-water views with planted shore sections.
  • Lotus-viewing areas and water-lily pools give smaller-scale botanical stops around the reservoir.

Location & getting there

Getting to Songshan Lake

For an initial visit, use the Songhu Yanyu entrance on Daxue Road and follow the lakeside signs. The official local route guide identifies this entrance; choose it instead of the lake’s centre or a private corporate campus.

General visit reminders

Allow room for the terrain and weather when choosing your route. Check the operator’s current trail, shuttle and cableway notices where applicable, and confirm the return connection before setting out. A broad landscape pin does not identify every trailhead or access point.

Combine your visit

Suggested order for the visit:

  1. Songhu Yanyu entrance

    Choose a manageable lakeside section.

  2. Public reservoir-side path

Follow the water and planted shore.

  3. Lotus or water-lily area on your selected section

Finish with the seasonal planting rather than extending around the whole lake.
