About White Horse Temple
The present visit follows a sequence of courtyards and halls, ending at Qingliang Terrace, rather than surviving entirely Han-period buildings. Stone horses outside the gate recall the founding story, although the sculptures themselves came from a later tomb. International Buddhist halls add Indian, Thai and Burmese architectural forms beside the Chinese monastic setting.
What to look for
- The stone horses and the main sequence of halls leading toward Qingliang Terrace.
- The international Buddhist halls, which contrast different Asian religious architectural traditions.
The surrounding area
A city base for Longmen, soup breakfasts, old-city food streets and contemporary hanfu visitor districts.
