About Museum of Luoyang Eastern Zhou Royal Horse and Chariot Pits

The six-horse team gives the site its name and raises questions about the status of the people buried here. Other arrangements in the pit make it possible to compare teams rather than viewing the remains as an undifferentiated mass. Introductory displays place the discovery within the changing locations of Luoyang’s ancient capitals and the investigation of the royal cemetery.

What to look for

  • The preserved six-horse chariot arrangement, central to the interpretation of royal status.
  • The wider horse-and-chariot pit and displays mapping the Eastern Zhou capital and cemetery.

The surrounding area

A city base for Longmen, soup breakfasts, old-city food streets and contemporary hanfu visitor districts.
