About Alishan Forest Recreation Area
The giant-tree trails and Sisters Ponds bring the forest into close view, while Zhushan is associated with sunrise outings that require their own early transport plan.
Alishan is a mountain region rather than a single summit. Within the recreation area, build a route around a few connected forest stops and leave extra time for cloud, rain and the altitude. The old logging history remains visible in the railway and forest relics; the surviving trees help explain what once drew industry to the mountain.
What to look for
- The giant-tree trails preserve impressive red cypress specimens.
- Sisters Ponds add a quieter water-and-forest setting.
- The mountain railway and forest relics connect the landscape with its logging history.
