About Nalati Grassland

The higher grassland route and lower river-valley areas offer different views, with named stops such as Tianjietai and Youmu Renjia helping organise the visit. Pastoral culture is part of the setting, while visitor programmes and performances are scheduled activities. Choose a specific route rather than treating all of Nalati as one short walk.

The grassland developed on ancient flood deposits dating to the Tertiary period and lies at an average elevation of 1,800 metres. Mountains enclose it on three sides, and the Gongnaisi River (巩乃斯河) flows through it. Its subalpine meadows contain irises, sedges and grasses, while recorded wildlife includes ibex, snow leopards and red deer.

The scenic area was established in 1999 with a total planned area of 1,848 square kilometres. From south to north, its designated zones encompass alpine grassland, Kazakh folk culture and tourism services. It became a national 5A tourist attraction (中国国家5A级旅游景区) in 2011 and a national ecotourism demonstration area (中国国家级生态旅游示范区) in 2015.

Use Nalati Scenic Area near Nalati town in Xinyuan County. Check the route named on your ticket and the current sightseeing-vehicle arrangement before departure; different circuits can require separate time and transport.
