About Western Hills
Huating and Taihua temples offer courtyards and planting on the ascent, while Dragon Gate and Sanqing Pavilion occupy a much steeper setting above the lake. The change from enclosed woodland to exposed lake views is central to the visit. Decide at the visitor centre how much climbing to include and which operated transport is available; the named sights sit at different heights.
What to look for
- Huating and Taihua temples combine religious buildings with mountain gardens.
- Dragon Gate and Sanqing Pavilion occupy the cliffs above Dianchi, with broad lake views.
