About Wuzhangyuan Zhuge Liang Temple
An item in Economic Information Daily, published by Xinhua News Agency, describes Wuzhangyuan as having the Qinling at its back to the south, facing the Wei River to the north and with deep gullies on both its east and west sides, and records that the present temple has been repaired over successive dynasties, is listed as a Shaanxi provincial key protected cultural relic and a provincial scenic area, and is an important stop on the Three Kingdoms tourism route. A museum of the same name, the Qishan County Wuzhangyuan Zhuge Liang Temple Museum, is registered at Wuzhangyuan village in Caijiapo town; its registration gives its sponsor as the Qishan County Culture and Tourism Bureau, which is also the county cultural heritage bureau, and its remit as protecting the cultural relics and the historic site, landscaping and beautifying the scenic area, receiving visitors and developing tourism.
The temple holds murals, and on 8 January 2020 the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration issued an opinion to the Baoji municipal heritage bureau on the plan for their conservation and restoration, numbered 陕文物函〔2020〕10号. In it the provincial administration declined at that point to approve the plan and set out four points of revision, the third requiring that, besides grouting the detached areas, the effect on the murals' detachment of uneven settlement of the building be assessed and a treatment addressing both cause and symptom be proposed; the record states this as the position of January 2020 and no cited page says whether a revised plan was later approved. The museum's own annual return for 2022 records that year's routine maintenance on the Yueying hall, the bagua formation, the east and west exhibition rooms and other buildings, clearing roof debris and weeds and replacing damaged tiles and ridge pieces, and the removal of five diseased or dead trees that threatened the buildings but had no historic value. The same return records that the museum keeps three community cultural-relics correspondents and regularly patrols the area around the temple and the Huoluocheng site.
