About Taiping National Forest Park

China Tourism News describes the park's terrain as mid-mountain Qinling country with rich biological resources, and the provincial news site Cnwest puts its forest cover above 96 per cent. The geopark's note on the Taiping scenic area lists valleys, cliffs, peaks and ridges and high-mountain meadows under widespread old-growth forest, and traces the area's geological interest to dyke infill in the migmatites of the Palaeoproterozoic Qinling Group, to valley erosion and to the drops of its waterfalls. Three waterfalls are named on that note — Yudai, Qingxian Heqiao and Caihong — each, it says, of a different character.

The season the park is best known for is the flowering of Chinese redbud (紫荆), which both the geopark note and Cnwest put across ten thousand mu (万亩) of hillside in spring. Cnwest records the byname 天下紫荆,源系太平 for the display, and China Tourism News reports that plant specialists of the Chinese Academy of Forestry hold the park's redbuds to be the earliest place of origin of the redbud in China. The flowering is marked annually: the twenty-second redbud season opened at the park on 10 April 2026, together with the Xi'an Qinling ecological tourism season.

What to look for

  • Yudai, Qingxian Heqiao and Caihong waterfalls, the three named on the geopark's Taiping scenic-area note
  • The spring redbud (紫荆) flowering, which the geopark note and Cnwest both describe as covering ten thousand mu (万亩) of hillside
  • High-mountain meadows and the old-growth forest the geopark note describes across the valleys, cliffs, peaks and ridges of the scenic area
  • The migmatites of the Palaeoproterozoic Qinling Group and the dykes filling them, the geological feature the geopark gives for this scenic area
