About Longnao Bridge
Its most distinctive feature is the sculpture built into the piers: dragons, qilin, lions and elephants face into the water, with their tails on the opposite side. The stone beams connect the piers between these carved forms.
Look from the riverbank as well as along the bridge. The bank view makes the relationship between animal carving and bridge support easier to understand, while the crossing shows the narrow beam structure from above. The sculptures are working architectural elements as well as decoration, which makes this a particularly focused visit for stonework and bridge design.
What to look for
- Large auspicious-animal carvings form part of the central bridge piers.
- Stone beams connect the piers, revealing the bridge’s structural arrangement.
