About Tianjin Radio and Television Tower
Built in 1991 for communications, it combines a slender shaft with a high observation pod and a broad water setting at its base. The lake makes the structure visually different from towers embedded in dense street blocks: a shore view shows the full vertical form and its reflection. If an observation visit is available, treat it as an additional booked activity; the outdoor architectural view remains the simplest way to understand the landmark.
The tower is 415.2 metres tall and cost $45 million to build. About two-thirds of the way up the structure, an observation pod has 253 square metres of floor space, most of it used for communication equipment. The tower is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers.
