About Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao Memorial Hall

Tianjin's student activism forms an especially local thread: a printing press used for the Tientsin Student newspaper connects the collection with the May Fourth era. Larger exhibits include Zhou's car and an aircraft presented by the Soviet Union. The range from domestic objects to transport makes the museum more tangible than a biography told only through wall text. Its location beside the Water Park allows a quieter outdoor continuation afterward.

The memorial hall was built in 1998 on the site of an earlier Memorial Hall of Zhou Enlai's Youth Revolutionary Activities in Tianjin. It occupies 60,000 square meters within the Tianjin Water Park scenic area, with a building area of 7,000 square meters. In November 2017 it was honored as a Fifth National Civilized Unit, and in December 2017 the Ministry of Education selected it as one of the first national study-and-practice education bases and camps for primary and middle school students.

Its basic display is divided into four exhibition areas: the main exhibition hall, a reproduction of the West Flower Hall (西花厅) of Zhongnanhai in Beijing, an area devoted to Zhou Enlai's dedicated aircraft, and an area for the ship 'New Haimen', which carried out the scattering of Deng Yingchao's ashes in 1992. An outdoor exhibit displays an Ilyushin Il-14 aircraft, numbered 678 (600), Zhou Enlai's first dedicated aircraft, given by the Soviet government and classified as a grade-two cultural relic.

The museum holds more than 8,000 cultural relics, over 100 of which are rated first-class national relics, including more than 140 artifacts recovered from Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao displayed in a dedicated hall. The museum is recognized as a national patriotic-education demonstration base and a stop on China's 'red tourism' circuit.
