About Kuerdening Scenic Area
The county government records that Kuerdening holds more than 1,000 species of higher plants, 146 species of terrestrial vertebrates and 196 species of insects, with more than 30 species of nationally protected animals, and calls it a natural gene bank of wild species in the Eurasian hinterland. It describes the area as the best habitat and origin area for snow-ridge spruce and Central Asian wild fruit forest, known as "Tianshan green valley, home of the snow-ridge spruce". The prefecture government adds that the scenic area has an old-growth snow-ridge spruce forest and a broad mountain valley running north to south, and that it combines ecological sightseeing, scientific study and holiday leisure.
The county page records that the area was made an autonomous-region snow-ridge spruce nature reserve in 1984, was approved by the State Council as the West Tianshan national nature reserve in 2000 and was rated a national AAAA-level tourist attraction in 2012. In 2013 it was inscribed as part of the "Xinjiang Tianshan" world natural heritage, forming the Kalajun–Kuerdening central Tianshan component together with Kalajun, and was listed that year in the thirteenth batch of national water conservancy scenic areas. The prefecture government records that cloud and mist often fill the valley after spring rain.
