Wenquan County is described as the only county in China named for the geothermal resource "hot spring". The county publicity office names three springs — Bogda'er (博格达尔), known as the Holy Spring (圣泉); Otuokesai (鄂托克赛尔), the Heavenly Spring (天泉); and Arxiatai (阿尔夏提), the Immortal Spring (仙泉) — and the prefecture's A-grade register lists a Bogda (Holy Spring) scenic area as 4A-grade and an Otuokesai (Heavenly Spring) scenic area as 2A-grade.

The Valley Forest scenic area lies in the virgin-forest river valley north of the county town, with the Bortala River running through it; it was completed in 2019 and rated 4A in 2021. Its valley greenway runs 36.32 kilometres along the river's tree belt from west to east, passing marsh wetland, floodplain, sea buckthorn, large poplars, river willows and dense scrub, with tree and grass cover of 61 per cent. Wildlife recorded there includes ring-necked pheasant, hare, woodpecker, wild boar, roe deer and whooper swan.
