About Wutongqiao Old Town
The local nickname “Little West Lake” refers to this waterside setting, not to a separate replica lake attraction. Rather than expecting a preserved walled old town with one ticket gate, use the riverfront as the organising feature of a walk. The canopy, bridge views and everyday streets make it a quieter urban contrast to the Giant Buddha and the higher mountain routes around Leshan.
Wutongqiao developed as a salt town. At Siwangguan (四望观) in Zhugen (竹根镇), the Mangxi River (茫溪河) joins the Yongsi River (涌斯江), a branch of the Min River (岷江). These waterways connect the town to the wider Min River system.
What to look for
- Old banyan trees shading the riverbanks.
- The bridges and water views behind the town’s Little West Lake nickname.
