About Dayuwan Village
The district government credits the village's standing to its farming-and-study tradition, its Jing-Chu style historic houses, its fengshui-based layout and its folk customs, on which basis it has been listed as a Chinese Historic and Cultural Village, a Chinese Traditional Village and a Hubei provincial key cultural heritage protection unit. The village museum presents 650 years of settlement history, including the scholar-official record summarised locally as 'three prefects from one family, four ministers in five generations', compiled from local gazetteers and family genealogies.
A multi-year upgrade culminated in a reopening in September 2019, timed to the village's 650th anniversary. Old houses were restored and several were fitted out as themed displays, including the museum, a re-created opium den and gambling house, a pharmacy, an escort agency and a family-tradition hall, with a folk-opera stage used for puppet and shadow-play performances. To reduce pressure on the historic core, the operator built a Jing-Chu style new village nearby and many residents moved there through property exchange, so parts of the old village remain lived in while restoration continues.
