About Huangjueping Graffiti Art Street
A Shangyou News report republished by the Chongqing Municipal Urban Management Bureau records that the street 'emerged' from an old city block in 2007 in a burst of striking colour and has since become a nationally known destination, with peak daily visitor flow exceeding 10,000; the street runs from Railway Primary School to the 501 Art Base and the gate of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. A Huolong Wang report, also republished by the bureau, records that in 2021 Jiulongpo District renovated 11 street-front buildings, treating more than 20,000 square metres of wall and repainting more than 6,000 square metres, in a project led overall by institute president Pang Maokun with design and execution by its School of Architecture and Environmental Art; contemporary artists including Luo Zhongli, Zhang Xiaogang and Zhang Jie took part, and the street gained a new all-brick freeform-curved gallery structure alongside the murals.
The Jiulongpo District government's own account gives the street's current dimensions as 1.25 kilometres long and about 50,000 square metres in area, divided by a 2025 map into a free-graffiti zone, a limited-graffiti zone and a viewing zone, and records that it now receives more than 2 million visitors a year as the district's most recognisable culture-and-tourism landmark. The Shangyou News report adds that the street's main thoroughfare functions as a red viewing zone displaying reproduction works by artists including Luo Zhongli and Zhang Xiaogang alongside pieces by fine-arts-institute students, some produced using an aluminium-panel technique so the reproductions resist weathering better than paint applied directly to old walls.
