About Datong Ancient Town
Lanxi Old Street occupies the mainland bank, while Heyue Old Street survives on the river island opposite. Brick walls, dark roofs and raised horse-head gables recall the trading settlement, though floods and the decline of river commerce left many buildings fragmented. The two banks make a useful comparison, but the island is a separate ferry visit rather than an extension of the mainland pavement.
What to look for
- Lanxi Old Street’s riverside commercial setting.
- The surviving lanes, brick buildings and horse-head gables on Heyuezhou.
