Tianjing Lake 天井湖

Tianjing Hu

Tianjing Lake’s linked basins are divided by low hills and embankments, creating a varied urban park beside Tongling’s centre.

A wide lake panorama: teal-green water across the lower half, a wooded shoreline with a low bridge, and a hazy modern city skyline of high-rises behind it under a pale blue sky.

About Tianjing Lake

Tongtian Pavilion and the well from which the lake takes its name give the water a specific landmark, while the winding bridge and waterside corridors frame quieter views. The surrounding scenic area includes Copper Culture Park, where sculpture shifts the emphasis from garden scenery to the city’s identity as a copper-working centre.

The lake lies on the north side of Chang Jiang West Road (长江西路) in Tongling and covers more than 1,200 mu (亩). A small island in the lake holds a well said to connect to heaven above and to the sea below, from which the lake takes its name, Tianjing (天井), or Sky Well. The surrounding scenic area also includes Jiangnan Culture Park (江南文化园), a lake-viewing plaza (观湖广场), and the West Lake (西湖) and North Lake (北湖) basins, and was rated a national 4A tourist attraction (国家4A级旅游景区) by the National Tourism Administration in 2007.
