About Dapeng Fortress
It was established in the Ming period as part of the coastal defence system guarding the approaches to the Pearl River. The surviving fortified setting gives the visit a different scale from Shenzhen’s modern business centre.
Explore the fort and the old settlement as connected spaces. Historic buildings in the surrounding lanes now accommodate small shops and food businesses, while the nearby Dongshan Temple offers another cultural stop. The interest is in the walls, lanes and relationship between defence and village life; allow a separate outing for this part of the Dapeng peninsula.
What to look for
- The fortified walls and entrance areas reveal the settlement’s coastal-defence role.
- The old village lanes contain historic buildings adapted to present-day shops.
The surrounding area
A separate major city for waterfront leisure, contemporary urban life, Nantou and longer excursions toward Dapeng.
Location & getting there
Getting to Dapeng Fortress
Use the fortress address in Pengcheng Community, Dapeng: Nanmenwei Second Lane. This is the eastern Dapeng area, so arrange the final road transfer to the fortress itself rather than a generic downtown Shenzhen drop-off.
