About Elephant Trunk Hill
The limestone outline resembles an elephant lowering its trunk into the water, with a rounded opening beneath the arch. That opening is known as Water-Moon Cave and is the feature around which the familiar silhouette is formed.
The river setting is as important as the rock itself. From an authorised viewpoint, compare the arch with its reflection and look at how the hill meets the two waterways. Use the managed park route for the visit; older travel accounts describing unofficial boat access or ways around the entrance do not provide a reliable visitor plan.
What to look for
- Water-Moon Cave forms the rounded opening beneath the elephant-like arch.
- The confluence of the Taohua and Li rivers frames the limestone silhouette.
