About Guizhou Provincial Museum
The collection includes bronze drums and an inscribed Ming bronze bell, objects that connect local material culture with ceremony and sound. Use the historical sequence as the main visit, then look for the displayed bronzes and any current temporary exhibition. Individual collection objects may rotate, so the museum’s current gallery list remains the guide to what is on view.
The museum was first planned in 1953 and opened in 1958 at an earlier site on Beijing Road (北京路) in Yunyan District (云岩区), which covered about 19,300 square meters. A new building was approved in 2007, construction began in 2010, and the new building opened on 30 September 2017. The museum is a large, comprehensive institution occupying a floor area of 46,450 square meters on a site of 106.29 mu (亩) at 107 Lincheng East Road (林城东路) in Guanshanhu District (观山湖区), Guiyang. It was designated a National First-Class Museum (国家一级博物馆) in 2020.
The collections also include Miao (苗族) clothing and silver ornaments, fossils from Guizhou, and objects excavated from Palaeolithic sites.
