Jingxiu District 竞秀区

Jingxiu District (竞秀区) is part of the main urban area of Baoding (保定市) in Hebei and is the seat of the city's Party committee and government. It shades from the city's commercial streets in the east to villages in the west, where the old post-station village of Dajidian (大激店) has been restored for visitors.

Getting oriented

The district government describes Jingxiu as the political centre of Baoding. Regional headquarters of banks such as the Bank of China and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China stand here, along with shopping centres including Wanbo Plaza (万博广场) and Maoye Department Store (茂业百货). The district also holds the "eight factories of the western suburbs" (西郊八大厂) built during the First Five-Year Plan, China Lucky (中国乐凯) and the Baoding National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone (保定国家高新技术产业开发区).

Yimuquan (一亩泉, "one-mu spring") in the district is called Baoding's "mother river" and is presented by the district as the source of the city, of its industry and of its culture.

History

In 1953 Baoding set up a New Second District in the west of the city; it became Luxi District at the end of 1959 and was merged into a single city district in 1960. In July 1961 the area west of Huancheng West Road (环城西路) was organised as Xinshi District (新市区). With State Council approval it was renamed Jingxiu in May 2015, after Langfeng Jingxiu (狼峰竞秀), one of the Eight Views of Shanggu (上谷八景), and after Jingxiu Park (竞秀公园) at the district's centre.

What to see

Dajidian village lies just inside the junction of Baoding's South Second Ring and West Third Ring roads. Water surrounds it on three sides: the Baicaogou River (百草沟河) runs past the south, and the name recalls how two seasonal streams from the north clash with it west of the village in the rainy season. Hebei University describes the remains of a Tang-dynasty post station among the village's 28 historic sites, which also include Guanyin Hall (观音堂), Zhenwu Terrace (真武台) and the West Cihang Temple (西慈航寺). Six bridges cross the river, three of them within a hundred paces (百步三桥).

The old opera stage, built of large stone blocks and facing north, was listed as a Baoding municipal key cultural relics protection unit in 1993; visiting troupes left writing on its backstage walls. Nine historic steles in the village have been cleaned and repaired. Since Baoding's second tourism development conference it has also been promoted as the Dajidian Music Culture Town (大激店音乐文化小镇), and in 2026 the Hebei Federation of Literary and Art Circles chose it as one of its 100 "scenes of the times"; the village has the Nine-Mu Bamboo Courtyard (九亩竹院) artists' creative park.
