About Hong Kong Maritime Museum
Ship models, paintings, navigation objects and trade material trace the South China coast’s maritime connections. Detailed models make changes in vessel design especially accessible, while the collection also follows the development of Hong Kong’s port.
The painted scroll Pacifying the South China Sea and its digital interpretation connect the galleries with the history of coastal piracy and naval action. Compare this narrative artwork with the more technical ship and navigation displays. The pier setting gives a useful final reference point when looking back towards today’s working harbour.
What to look for
- Detailed ship models show changes in vessel design and maritime use.
- Pacifying the South China Sea presents a historical coastal narrative in painted form.
- Navigation and trade displays connect ships with routes, cargo and harbour operations.
