About Yinchuan Hedong Airport

Its rail connection makes it useful for journeys continuing beyond the capital, while road transfers serve the city and surrounding districts. The airport railway station and the city’s main Yinchuan railway station are different stops: check the station printed on your onward ticket before choosing a transfer.

Construction of the airport was approved in 1995, and it opened on 6 September 1997 as the first international civil airport in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region; a third-phase expansion began at the end of 2011. Its flight-zone classification was upgraded to 4E on 24 August 2015, making it the third 4E airport in Northwest China. The T3 terminal opened on 27 December 2016, while T2 closed for renovation; T2 reopened as the international hall on 8 February 2018, when the original international hall, T1, was closed. The Hedong Airport railway station (河东机场站), west of the terminal, opened on 29 December 2019, when the Yinchuan-Zhongwei section of the Yinchuan-Lanzhou railway (银兰高速铁路) was completed.

The airport operates three terminals, T1, T2 and T3, plus four satellite city terminals: Binhe (滨河候机楼), Yuehai (悦海城市候机楼), Yanchi (盐池城市候机楼) and Xinhua Lian (新华联城市候机楼). The T3 terminal, opened in 2016, covers about 82,000 square metres over two above-ground floors and a partial basement, designed for an annual throughput of 16 million passengers; its departure level houses 36 check-in counters, 30 self-service kiosks and 12 security lanes. The Binhe terminal, beside the Yellow River, and the later Yuehai, Yanchi and Xinhua Lian terminals provide check-in, ticketing and transfer services away from the main terminal.

At the airport

  • Hedong Airport railway station links the airport with regional train services.

It is located 25 kilometres (16 mi) southeast of downtown Yinchuan in the town of Linghe of Lingwu City.
