About Qiankou

From the 1980s, threatened Ming-period structures from surrounding settlements were dismantled and reconstructed here.

Houses, ancestral halls, a roadside pavilion and a stone arch preserve individual architectural forms. Their arrangement follows the terrain in the manner of a traditional local village.

The complex occupies about 17,160 square meters and comprises six residences, three ancestral halls, one roadside pavilion and one gate complex (山门). Relocation began in 1984, bringing more than ten typical Ming-dynasty buildings that could not be preserved in place from Zhengcun (郑村), Xucun (许村), Qiankou and Xixinan (西溪南), among other settlements in Huizhou District and She County; the work was substantially complete by 1990. By the end of 1994, three ancestral halls, five residences, one roadside pavilion and one stone memorial arch (石牌坊) had been relocated, bringing the total site area to nearly 20,000 square meters.

What to look for

  • Relocated Ming-period houses retain the forms of individual Huizhou homes.
  • Ancestral halls, a roadside pavilion and a stone arch extend the collection beyond domestic architecture.
