About Tanyuan
The present garden was rebuilt in 2011 after the earlier property had long been lost.
Bao Zun Hall, Qing Hui Yard and a gourd-shaped pool give the small ensemble several distinct scenes. A boat-shaped house and winding corridors add changes of viewpoint around the water. Treat the visit as an interpretation of a scholar’s garden tradition, with attention to how halls, courtyards and water are composed.
What to look for
- Bao Zun Hall and Qing Hui Yard provide separate architectural scenes.
- The gourd-shaped pool and boat-shaped house organize the waterside setting.
