Temple courtyards

Ciyun Temple (慈云寺) has four main halls arranged across three courtyards, rising in sequence from south to north. The Shakyamuni Hall (释迦殿) contains Ming dynasty murals. Inside the Pilu Hall (毗庐殿), wooden scripture cabinets take the form of towers, while glazed flowers, dragons and animals decorate the roof ridge. The temple became a nationally protected cultural heritage site in 2006.

Temple and frontier landmarks

Ciyun Temple began in the Tang dynasty under the name Fahua Temple (法华寺). Major rebuilding during the Ming Xuande reign gave it the name used today. Beyond the temple, the Li’erkou Great Wall Scenic Area (李二口长城景区) lies twelve kilometres northeast of the county town.
