A Northern Wei royal cemetery
Fangshan Yonggu Mausoleum (方山永固陵) centres on the tomb of Empress Dowager Feng (冯太后). Construction began in 481, and she was buried here in 490. The cemetery follows a central axis and combines royal burial grounds with a Buddhist temple. A large earth mound covers the tomb, whose internal sequence includes a passage, an antechamber, a corridor and a main chamber.
Temples and local food
Ningjing Temple (宁静寺), beneath the northern wall of Polubao Village (破鲁堡村), preserves Ming dynasty architecture. Xinrong District also has a local dish called Glass Dumplings (玻璃饺子). Their wrappers use locally produced starch and become translucent after cooking, allowing the filling to show through.
