History and remembrance

The county traces its administrative history to 575, during the Northern Zhou. Chen Yi’s Hometown Scenic Area (陈毅故里景区) is in Laodong Town (劳动镇), eight kilometres from the county town. It includes his former residence and the Chen Yi Memorial Hall (陈毅纪念馆).

Mulberry countryside

Sandu Sanghai (桑都桑海景区), in Dongshan Town (东山镇), combines sericulture with rural tourism. Fenghuang Lake (凤凰湖), Mianhua Lake (棉花湖) and Fenghuang Mountain (凤凰山) form its core landscape. The mountain preserves old cypresses from the Ming and Qing periods. Activities described by the county include raising silkworms, reeling silk, weaving cloth and making mulberry-leaf tea.
