Streets and older monuments
Zhongda Street (中大街), West Street (西大街), East Street (东大街) and Liufang Road (留方路) preserve historic buildings. Zuyin Temple (祖印寺) was founded in 940. The Imperial Calligraphy Building (御书楼), built in 1689, houses a plaque bearing the calligraphy of the Kangxi Emperor and his portrait. The2018 yearbook places these streets and monuments in Changguo Subdistrict (昌国街道), in the northern part of Dinghai’s urban area.
A writer’s family home
Sanmao’s grandfather built her ancestral home in 1921. The independent courtyard faces east, with rooms along its northern and southern sides. The house uses timber framing and small grey roof tiles; the yearbook records its conversion into a Sanmao literary exhibition room in2000.
