About Shidu
Its name means the tenth crossing, recalling a route that once required repeated river fords; the numbered crossings still help identify villages and scenic areas along the valley. The river, steep limestone sides, and individual visitor sites form a dispersed landscape rather than one compact attraction. Choose a particular crossing and its surrounding scenery before arranging the trip. A valley outing works best when built around that selected base, with any additional upstream stop treated as a separate local transfer.
What to look for
- Juma River and limestone slopes: look at the relationship between the watercourse and the valley walls.
- Numbered crossing settlements: use the old ford sequence to understand the valley’s geography and place names.
