About West Bund Museum
Three main galleries and additional project spaces accommodate changing art exhibitions.
The building’s relationship with the Huangpu River is as much a part of the visit as the exhibition interiors. Choose the current programme, then compare the galleries with the public riverfront setting. Its opening-era collaboration with the Centre Pompidou is part of its history, but an old programme description does not establish what is currently on display.
Construction of the museum building took three years, and it opened on 8 November 2019. The completed building has a total floor area of 25,000 square metres. Its three main exhibition halls present works in permanent displays as well as special exhibitions. In addition to these principal halls, the building contains a basement level with further spaces for different activities. These include a multifunction hall and the Zhizao Exhibition Hall (智造展厅). Within the latter are a studio, a playground and a workshop for children.
