Setting and landscape
The district government lists Longwo Lake (龙窝湖), the Shili Jiangwan riverside (十里江湾, the "ten-li river bend") and a group of waters it calls the "three lakes and one dam" (三湖一坝) as its natural scenery, and sums up the district as "half landscape, half city". Yijiang covers about 505 square kilometres, divided into ten subdistricts and one town, Eqiao (峨桥镇).
History
In 2015 the Wuhu high-tech zone and Yijiang District were brought under one management system. The 2020 merger with Sanshan followed, and in September 2025 the high-tech zone, Yijiang and the Sanshan economic development zone went through a further reform of how they are run.
What to see
For leisure the district points to Lianhua Lake Park (莲花湖公园), Squirrel Town (松鼠小镇) and the Longyanhu Yangxin Valley (龙眼湖养心谷). Squirrel Town has been named a national-level cluster for night-time culture and tourism spending. The district's landmark buildings include the Olympic Sports Center (奥体中心), the International Convention and Exhibition Center (国际会展中心) and Golden Eagle International Plaza (金鹰国际广场). Anhui Normal University (安徽师范大学) is one of seven higher-education institutions in the district.
Getting oriented
Wuhu South railway station (芜湖南站), on the Nanjing–Anqing (宁安) and Shangqiu–Hangzhou (商杭) high-speed lines, lies in the district. Wuhu Rail Transit Line 1 (轨道交通1号线) runs through it north to south, and the Longwan Tunnel (龙湾隧道) crosses the Yangtze. The Shanghai–Chongqing (沪渝) and Wuhu–Hefei (芜合) expressways meet here, and Sanshan Port (三山港) on the river is a first-class open port with international shipping routes to Southeast Asia, Japan and Korea.
