Reeds and desert woodland
Swans, geese and ducks gather around the lake during breeding and migration seasons. Reeds fringe the water, while woodland on the eastern shore contains white saxaul, tamarisk and desert poplar. These plants contrast with the surrounding Gobi (戈壁). The saline lake also supports brine shrimp, a feature of its aquatic ecology.
Red fruit fed by mountain snowmelt
Jinghe’s goji berries are irrigated with snowmelt from the Tianshan Mountains (天山). China Green Times describes the fruit as bright red, plump, thin-skinned, fleshy and sweet. A thirty-kilometre belt of adjoining goji plantations extends from Tuoli to Mangding Township (茫丁乡). Local processing turns the berries into purée, beer, herbal tea and juice, alongside the familiar dried fruit.
